Matthew Ngui's work straddles the disciplines of sculpture, installation, performance, photography and theatre. The work is primarily about representation, its relationship with illusion and reality, its role in the complexities of cultural representation and how these can be interpreted from different perspectives of theory, formal/spatial relationships and the contexts of lived realities.

Ngui's works tend to be site-specific and are made and conceptualised with the particular space in mind.

About the artist:
Matthew Ngui has exhibited in Western Australia and internationally, in such events as the Sao Paulo Biennial in Brazil, Rapport at the Singapore Art Museum, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane, Cities on the Move in Vienna and Documenta X in Kassel, Germany.
